The Stand...a good combo of sci-fi and horror.
Lucifier's Hammer...not the first "comet" hits earth scenario but one of the better known ones. A bit racist and sexist even for the '70s.
Earth Abides...sets the standard.
The Fire Dies...an interesting premise...all technology stops after a mysterious flash of light. Set in the Pacific northwest. Part of a trilogy.
Midnight Mass...vampires bring down the US. Human resistance starts with an old rabbi and a young priest in New Jersey.
Armaggadeons...a series of short stories from various points of view...everything from a nuclear war (Iceland saves humanity!), to a massive solar flare destroying one side of the world.
When Worlds Collide and After Worlds Collide...the original disaster novels from the early 30's.

Anyone else care to add to this?

I'll def. check a few of those out. Stand is awesome, of course.

    I like Ran Prieur's post-apocalyptic fantasy essay/story, "Apocalypsopolis":

While you're there, check out his zines and other short stories. They're terrific. I love this guy.
I wish Resident Evil were a book series and not just video games and movies, or it'd be on this list.

Yep, I have very little to offer, much to my own shock and dismay...or maybe I'm not thinking hard enough...it's early here in MD.

    :-)
