Anyone else read it? One of the best post-apocalyptic books I've EVER read.

wow, dont mean to sound rash but thats too bad, there are alot of better written books of the jenre out there that while arent on oprahs list of things to read blow that book out of the water so if you are with me so far you are in for a treat, i suggest you check out:
    emergence by david palmar
the new madrid run (my fav book in this jenre)'
earth abides (my friend isherwoods life story)
lucifers hammer (or hamner hahaha you wont know till you read it, hamner-brown to be precise)

these ought to give you a much better ride than the road. most post apoc readers i know have these in their collection with the exception of emergence, that is a little known splendid post apoc read if i do say so myself.

    cheers,
    captain rick

I have to agree with Marcella (and Oprah) about "The Road."

Without doubt, I enjoyed and respect "Earth Abides" as well as "Lucifer's Hammer." But, come on, there's no comparing Larry Niven with Cormac McCarthy. "The Road" may be short on techno-jargon and detailed science, but overwhelmingly makes up for it with devastatingly-engaging emotional force (something notably absent in Niven's and Stewart's works).

It's not often, after all, that the post-apocalyptic genre--or even science-fiction in general--lands a Pulitzer Prize.

are you kidding me? i felt like eeore was the narrater, it was a very short story, synopsis went something like this:

hungry, boy looks tired and sicker than yesterday

        left the shopping cart behind

hungry, boy looks tired and sicker than yesterday

hungry, boy looks tired and sicker than yesterday

hungry, boy looks tired and sicker than yesterday

found a stocked shelter today, ate eggs and steak

hungry, boy looks tired and sicker than yesterday

hungry, boy looks tired and sicker than yesterday

earth abides is one of the best books ever, I've never met anyone else who had even heard of it.

dang well at least i know how to spell genre now lol whats jenre did i mean jenga??

i was at the hotsprings one day and was talking to a couple about how the hot springs would be an ideal bugout position, its isolated, has hot and cold running water yearround and has wild game and the best part is there is only one road in and its made of dirt and ON A CLIFF FOR MILES so it would be easy to go isolationist on it. the couple had read both earth abides and the new madrid run. dont forget to check out emergence by palmer it is a good read.
